My Top 11 Wardrobe essentials

So I’ve been helping clients a ton lately with paring down their closets to only the items they wear often and helping them figure out how to fill in the gaps with pieces that they’ll be able to layer, use during most seasons and keep their wardrobe current. I’ve finally been able narrow it down to these 11 pieces that I think are essential to any closet during any season.

The Denim Shirt…

This staple is perfect alone with a pair of jeans, layered under a sweater, T-shirt or sweatshirt or buttoned all the way up with a statement necklace. I wear mine during every season of the year in all different ways. I love that it can be casual or dressy, too.

The Biker Jacket…

Another great item that can be worn in any season of the year. It’s perfect over a flowy summer dress, paired with a casual graphic tee or worn over a long sweater in the winter. I would definitely recommend one that is comfortable and has some stretch to it to maximize it’s use.

The Graphic Tee…

There are so many great uses for a graphic tee. I love them under cardigans, tucked into a skirt or worn under denim overalls. It’s a great way to bring in color and pattern to any outfit.

The Light Weight Scarf…

I say lightweight because then it can be used during more than one season. Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons for this type of scarf and are great when you don’t really want to plan an outfit but throw on a cute scarf with a solid shirt and your outfit is automatically amped up.

The Distressed Jean…

Goes with everything, worn during any season and great dressed up or down- need I say more!

The Black Bootie…

Paired with a cropped jean or worn with a t-shirt dress these add so much to a simple outfit, plus they’re comfortable!

The Flannel…

Fall, Winter and Spring are the perfect seasons for this shirt. This is my go-to for the ‘I want to be comfortable but still cute look’.

The Denim Jacket…

Another great layering item in the spring, summer and fall, this jacket never seems to go out of style. I love to wear it with chunky scarves in the Fall, over sundresses in the summer and pretty much with anything in the spring.

The Baseball Cap…

The perfect solution to the ‘no wash hair day’ or the ‘I don’t want to do anything to my hair’ day. Baseball caps make any outfit lighter and more fun.

The Crisp White Shirt…

This piece is timeless. I think any stylist would tell you the same thing. I layer it, I wear it alone, etc., etc. Paired with white jeans and any fun shoe (sandals, leopard flats, red booties) make the perfect statement outfit in any season. Add a fur to it in the winter and it’s cozy, too.

The Tennie…

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with these but right now I’m in love. T-shirt dresses, cropped jeans, short skirts- paired with a cute tennie and you can go all day long!

Family Picture Day

Surprise Birthday Brunch for Joss

My goal was to keep this party simple, small and summery. I’m not a big fan of themed parties, but my obsession with watermelons was the perfect jumping off point for Jossie’s 9th birthday. I pulled the colors and summery aspects of it into the look of the whole party.

These napkins were just the right addition to add that summery look and feel. The pink glasses were from the Dollar Store- such a great find!!

I made it a jammie party and the girls all looked adorable.

One of her favorite things to do is to make crafts so we made these watermelon fans together- the girls loved them.

The florals were all pink and green to follow the watermelon color scheme. The wreaths I made for the back of the chairs were made out of olive branches. They were a great addition to the table.

The centerpiece helped tie it all in together.

Watermelon slices on a stick were cute and fun to eat and it’s Jossie’s favorite fruit!

This watermelon cake was adorable and delicious.

I used washi tape to attach the pale colored balloons to the ceiling. We still have balloons floating around the house and it’s 2 weeks after her party!

Such a fun day for the sweetest girl- I love birthdays!!

Winter Coat Picks

This gray trench coat from H&M is the perfect color and length to wear with so much.

I love the high collar and how it keeps me warm during the really cold months.

Shearling is my new favorite coat material- soooooo comfortable and warm!! This one is also from H&M .

When I saw this TopShop coat from Nordstrom I knew I had to have it! The neutral color and soft, loose fitting fabric was exactly what my wardrobe needed. I purchased it in a couple of sizes bigger than what I normally wear so it could wear as more of an oversize coat.

Not to mention the fur collar- it’s like a built in scarf!

And finally my winter wouldn’t be complete without the purchase of a new faux fur. This patchwork, waist length fur works just as well with pants or jeans as it does with skirts and dresses.

Plus the color of the patches works well with so much!! Such a great purchase from H&M .

1 Dress, 4 Ways

This dress was such a great find at Nordstrom Rack. I knew that it would be perfect for this holiday season to dress up or down.

I just added some jewelry and heels to dress it up even more, perfect for a holiday party or Christmas Sunday outfit.

Love how the darker lip color by Mac and layered necklace from Nordstrom add just the right amount of elegance to compliment the dress.

To make it more wintry I added this blush fur from H&M and closed toe heel booties. Even though the dress is thin, these additions make it warm enough for th0se colder days.

Going for a more casual feel, I layered a chunky scarf from Nordstrom and denim jacket.

These black wedge booties from Nordstrom Rack are great for a contrasting color to the neutral dress.

dressleatherLeather and lace! Probably one of my favorite combos. I like the mixing of urban and country with these added pieces.

And a hat makes everything cuter- right?! Burgundy and blush is a combo I’m obsessed with right now- the perfect mix of feminine and chic.

Vintage Fringe Fall Jackets

I pretty much passed out when I saw this jacket!! The color, the length, the wide flap collar- everything about it was exactly what I never knew I always wanted!! I had to have it in my life for fall- no question:)  Vintage Fringe offers so many great jacket options from pea coats, short and long, to show stoppers that you won’t want to take off because they make the entire outfit. Shop this casual jacket directly at Erykah Waterfall Jacket – I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I had a similar feeling about this Tiffany Fringe Jacket as I knew it would be that ‘wow’ piece to add to my Fall jacket collection. fringejacket

Put it over a white tee and you’re good to go- comfortable, warm and unique- I seriously cannot get enough of fringe right now.fringejacket2

Finally, this French Terry Sherpa Jacket is the perfect combo of dressy, chic and comfortable- a winning combo in my book.

The length works great with pants as well as skirts and dresses. The zipper details and sherpa lining add great style and make it unique. But you can’t beat how comfortable and warm it is- which in Utah where I’m wearing my jackets all day most days- is an added bonus!blackjacket2

Must Have Fall Boots

Loving these Joie booties that I scored at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year. They’ve looked amazing with everything I’ve tried them on with so far. The heel is comfortable and adds the perfect touch of dressiness to each outfit. Plus the medium brown suede color works with just about any other

Hats, hats, hats

I love hats!!! These outfits would otherwise be too simple and slightly boring without the addition of the hats- like I basically wouldn’t even have worn these outfits if I didn’t have cute hats to wear with them. I find many of my hats, like both of these, at whose prices are reasonable and styles are always on point.anghat2

Neutrals are my favorite. This small brimmed hat adds just the right amount of texture and interest to make this outfit more fashionable.

The wide brim hat can be a little harder to pull off. Often times these hats offer more of a dressy look so I paired it with a wrap dress and simple wedge from Hat and dress from
