Getting Organized

A new year means a fresh start on getting organized and staying organized. January always seems to be the time of year that I crave cleaning out cupboards, labelling what I have and making sure everything has a home.

These acrylic drawers from The Container Store are actually shoe bins that I used to store smaller clothing items corralled together. The labels are from The Home Edit that we customized with a larger black backing to hide what was inside the drawer.

The laundry room is where I like to store extra towels and hand soaps. I love having some closed and some open storage.

Cute baskets and hampers are a must in my book to make laundry day a little better. All of these are from The Container Store. I love having somewhere that is a one stop shop to meet most all of my organizing needs/wants.

This a client’s pantry built and designed by Breinholt Design. The spice racks on the doors is a definite space saver and having everything labelled make it so simple to find everything you need. I love the acrylic bins in the pantry as well for easy visibility and corralling similar products.

Putting lights and outlets in the pantry makes visibility so much easier and the perfect way to store large appliances that can stay in place instead of having to pull them out for use. This pull out drawer is a station used often and is easy access for the kids, too.

A drawer with dividers for cans keeps them contained and easy to see. This pantry is now functional and beautiful- both necessary when it comes to the kitchen.

Finally the office!! Again I love having open storage so I can see what I have, but closed storage to hide what I don’t want to see. Getting inspired every day when I sit at the computer is key to having a space that I can work at and let the creative juices flow.

Art, books and cute labels are something I love to look at everyday!!

This idea board is where I love to display my current inspirations. I think it’s a necessary item in any office.

My next project is the bathroom and organizing all my make-up- can’t wait!!!

Chandelier Top Picks

  1. Serena and Lily Capiz Scalloped Chandelier
  2. Circa Lighting Jacqueline Chandelier
  3. Shades of Light Modern Geometry Chandelier
  4. Pottery Barn Amelia Wood Bead Chandelier
  5. McGee & Co Morris Lantern Chandelier
  6. Overstock Beaded Gray Chandelier

Each of these chandeliers will steal the show in any room. These lights offer a wide variety of options from different websites or stores and also a wide range of prices to meet the needs of any budget. I’m a sucker for a beautiful light and I think each of these represent multiple styles as well, from fancy and casual to boho and traditional. Happy shopping!!!

Holiday Housewarming Party

I thought the perfect way to share our new home with friends and family would be to combine a holiday AND housewarming party. It gave me time to get my home ready and kick off the holiday season with loved ones.

Drinks and appetizers were served to greet our guests. I kept the fare light finger foods to keep it easy and delicious.

This Lime Mojito drink was refreshing and so easy. Crushed mint leaves added to equal parts sprite and soda water garnished with lime was a crowd pleaser.

Simple finger foods with something for everyone were perfect for the casual night. I made these tiered platters by applying putty to candleholders and the platter base to allow for more food display. Something that is easily removable put perfect for larger gatherings.

Candles and twinkle lights were everywhere to allow for a dimly lit, moody atmosphere.

The dessert table included mini chocolate toffee trifles and raspberry shortcake trifles. This table was empty by the end of the night- definitely what I’d hoped for!!

Such a fun night celebrating with friends and family. Everyone’s kind comments and support of our new home left me full of gratitude for this new chapter of our life!!

Big thanks to she.be.still.photography and sydney.carpenter for the photos

Park City Ski Lodge

condofamilyroom

When styling this client’s ski lodge we wanted a rustic modern design- something that looked good but was also cozy. The comfortable navy blue chairs from Target were a great purchase that filled the space perfectly and brought in some much needed color. The wood tones and natural fibers we incorporated helped to warm up the modern look and be functional as well as durable for renters. This fiddle leaf fig plant from ZGallerie is the best fake one that I’ve found and brings in just the right amount of greenery to the space.

condodesk

These shelves from Ikea were the perfect spot to corral books and accessories and the Target lamp is such a reasonable price without having to sacrifice great looks.

condotable2

The contrasting dark moldings with lightly painted walls was a great way to combine rustic and modern. This clock from CB2 is beautiful in any space with it’s pewter face and gold hands.

condotable

This rustic table from West Elm added a great touch of rustic to the space and the end chairs from World market add comfort and texture.

condokitchen

These stools from World market function perfectly in the space and the light wood tones help to offset all of the dark cabinetry.

condomaster

The lodge has 3 bedrooms and the master is for sure the showpiece. We combined textures with metals, fur and wood tones in neutral palettes to complement the rest of the condo.

condoguest

We added ski elements since the location is right at the foot of the Park City Canyons Ski Resort. This bed and nightstand are both from World market .

Home for Christmas

familyroomchristmas2

We love being home for Christmas!!! When I decorate for this holiday I like to keep it simple and uncluttered. I feel like even the littlest detail adds so much for the holiday.familyroomchristmas

There’s never a shortage of wreaths, garlands and ribbon at Christmas in my home- I add it wherever I need a pop of color or hint of Christmas.details2

I love putting unique ornaments in bowls and jars to bring in a touch of the holiday.

tree

Last year I started adding touches of pink to replace the red and I’ve never looked back! Still loving the pink.

train

We found this train a few years ago and have loved it ever since! Our kids look forward to using it every year.

livingroomchristmas2

Another one of my favorite things to decorate with are mini Christmas trees- I pretty much collect them.

adventcalendar

I love how the advent calendar turned out this year. Filled with treats, notes and small toys, the kids get excited to open their package every morning!

entrytablechristmas

A pink feather wreath? Why yes! Of course I had to have this as soon as I saw it!

hollyplant

I’d never seen a real holly plant until this year. What could be more Christmassy for a table centerpiece??

kitchenchristmas

I only add subtle touches of Christmas in the kitchen but for me it’s just enough.

buffetchristmas

I always leave a tiered stand out on the buffet for treats I bake or receive so they get eaten!

girlsroomchristmas

I add a touch of Christmas in each bedroom- but the girls’ room is my favorite!!

Summer Table Centerpieces

Kitchen table centerpieces are some of the most common decor items I get asked about what would be best to display. I think the summer makes it easy for us with all of the fresh garden flowers and leaves and delicious fruits available to us. Displaying fruit in a pretty bowl not only makes it easily accessible but is simple and beautiful as well.

Grouping items like fresh garden flowers, a candle and salt and pepper shakers gives you a simple yet functional display. Adding a colorful tray underneath gives it a more summery feel.

Here I’ve used 2 matching trays to corral leaves from the garden along with napkins and salt and pepper shakers. It’s nice to be able to have necessary items when eating readily available if this is what suits your family best.

My centerpiece is always changing according to what the season is and what I need displayed the most. Sometimes functionality takes precedence but making it beautiful is always top priority!
